Criteria for LED based lighting applications in print shops

Timescale: 01.02.2016 to 31.01.2018

Project leader: Dr. Andreas Kraushaar

Funding: Programme of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for the support of "Industrielle Gemeinschaftsforschung [IGF]" via the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations [AiF]

The goal of this research project is to develop the aim values and associated tolerances for an all new conformance level to be defined in ISO 3664 (“P3 - General colour appraisal"). In order to achieve this, three main aspects will be covered. First performance quality criteria should be developed to judge LED lamps and luminaries. This print operators can orient themselves when investing in new lighting technology. In particular colour accuracy, flicker, beam angle and viewing glare and data sheet requirements will be assessed. Secondly lighting quality measures should be evaluated in order to qualify a entire room - with or without a viewing booth. The results will be summarised in a best practice guideline to support the end user both for planing and retrofitting viewing environments intended for high quality colour communication. Thirdly the findings will be used to submit a concrete draft to be included in ISO 3664 (JWG 21). In addition it is planed to actively contribute and support this project as an editor.
